Arm Lift
After significant weight loss — or simply with age — the skin of the upper arm can be left stretched, loose and hanging. An arm lift removes it and firms the contour from armpit to elbow.
At a glance
How it is performed
The lift is performed through incisions placed in the armpit and, where more skin must be removed, along the inner groove of the biceps. Excess skin is removed to improve contour and firm the whole area down to the elbow.
The length of the operation varies with your build and the extent of lift required — on average two to three hours. It is usually a day-case procedure in an accredited facility, though an overnight stay may be advised depending on your health.
Many patients who have lost a large amount of weight also want a tummy tuck, thigh lift or breast lift. Combining procedures is often possible; whether it is right for you depends on your overall health and the total operating time.
Who is it for
- Loose, hanging upper arm skin after major weight loss.
- Skin laxity from ageing, sun exposure and genetics.
- Patients who avoid short sleeves, or who experience friction under the arms during exercise.
- Stable weight and good general health.

Recovery timeline
- Days 1–3
Bruising, swelling and soreness. An elastic compression sleeve is provided and worn as instructed.
- Week 1
Light activity is encouraged. Plan not to drive or work for 7–10 days.
- Weeks 2–4
Swelling settles steadily; the contour becomes apparent.
- Week 4
Heavy lifting and strenuous activity are avoided until this point.
- Months 3–12
The scar matures, flattens and fades.
Risks & honest expectations
- A visible scar along the inner arm — the necessary trade for removing skin.
- Swelling, bruising and temporary numbness of the arm.
- Fluid collection, infection or delayed healing.
- Widened or thickened scars in patients prone to them.
- Asymmetry between the two arms.

Questions about this procedure
How noticeable is the scar?
It runs along the inner groove of the arm, where it is least visible from the front. It fades over the first year but remains permanent — this is discussed frankly before you decide.
Can liposuction alone fix my arms?
Only if the skin still has good elasticity. Where skin hangs, removing fat alone makes the hanging worse.
Can it be combined with other body procedures?
Yes — commonly with a tummy tuck, thigh lift or breast lift, subject to your overall health.
