A profile is a balance between nose, lips and chin. Where the chin is set back, enlarging it by a few millimetres often does more for the profile than reducing the nose any further.

How it is performed
Correction of a recessed chin is made with a pre-formed implant, shaped to the required contour and placed beneath the periosteum, directly onto the jawbone. The pocket is closed with absorbable sutures.
The implant is placed through a small incision under the chin rather than inside the lower lip. The external route is preferred because an oral incision carries a higher rate of infection. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia and recovery is quick.
Similar implants restore fullness in the cheeks where soft tissue has shrunk with age; in selected cases this alone produces a more youthful appearance, much as a nasal correction does when combined with a facelift.
Who is it for
- Moderate under-development of the chin, especially when a rhinoplasty is planned.
- Loss of soft-tissue volume in the cheeks, often addressed alongside a facelift.
- Patients who want a defined jawline without changing anything else.
- Chin protrusion — over-development — which is corrected by reducing bone or, where the bite is involved, repositioning the jaw with dental planning.
Recovery timeline
- Days 1–2
Mild swelling and tightness under the chin. Soft diet is more comfortable.
- Days 3–5
Swelling settles noticeably; most patients return to work.
- Weeks 2–4
Contour becomes natural as the last swelling resolves.
- Month 2+
Definitive result; the implant is not felt as a foreign body.
Risks & honest expectations
- Swelling and temporary numbness in the chin area.
- Implant displacement is uncommon and correctable.
- Infection is unusual, and less likely with the incision placed under the chin rather than inside the mouth.
- Where the bite is the underlying problem, an implant alone is not the answer — dental and jaw planning is required.

Is it usually done alone?
Often not. It is most valuable in combination — with rhinoplasty for profile balance, or with a facelift where the face has lost volume.
Filler instead of an implant?
Filler can be a good trial or a solution for modest changes, but it is temporary. An implant provides a stable, permanent contour.
Will the implant be visible?
No. It sits on the bone under the soft tissue and follows the natural line of the jaw.
